Not just colour theory. Colour literacy.
You’ll follow a powerful path toward fluency using BTC’s unique 3D system—colour by colour, cube by cube—so you can stop second-guessing your swatches and start using colour with clarity, creativity, and intention.
Inside The Colour Room, you’ll:
Understand what colour actually is (and why what you’ve been taught might be wrong)
Name, define, and locate every colour in BTC’s collection of 400 (yes, 400!)
Develop a creative colour practice using prompts, challenges, and mini-projects
Make sense of mixing, not through messy trial-and-error, but with a system that works
See the whole spectrum of what’s possible, and how to use it in your own work or teaching
BTC doesn’t just teach colour.
It transforms your relationship with colour.
3 primary colours + 9 Core Practice Stages = 400 colours!
Colour fluency isn’t about talent or theory.
It’s about practice, and BTC makes it doable, trackable, and fun.
Inside The Colour Room, you’ll be guided through the gamut with mindful intention, following 9 Core Practice Stages that will show you how just three primary Hues – Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow – can be the portal for so many more, exponentially increasing your colour vocabulary, taking you from “What colour is it?” to “I know it, I can find it, and I can use it.”
Here’s a overview of the Core Practice path…
LOOK → NAME → CODE → CUBE → SORT → PLAY → FIND → FLOW → GROW
Whether you're working with the Corner Cube or the full BTC 216, this structure scales with your confidence—and shows you exactly what to do next.
No more relying on the myth-information of a colour wheel that falls flat and leaves you spinning with a limited (and often inaccurate) palette.
Instead, get your hands on tolls you can actually use and rely on: a Colour Card for every colour, and a Colour Cube for every card, the BTC system is your swatch deck, palette planner, and 3D GPS colour map all rolled into one.
👥 Who This Is For
Speak to your three avatars: Artists, Teachers, Explorers
Invite them to recognize themselves in the struggle and the potential
Purpose: Make your 3 primary avatars feel seen.
Use your now-refined avatar descriptions:
Artists – passionate but frustrated, looking for clarity and flow
Teachers – dedicated but conflicted, seeking better tools and a modern approach
Explorers – curious but confused, eager to join the fun and make sense of colour
Optional: “You don’t need to be an artist, a teacher—or even ‘good at colour’—to break through. You just need to be curious.”
The Colour Room isn’t for everyone.
It’s for Artists who are tired of wasting art materials with messy guessing.
It’s for Teachers who are ready to reinvent that wonky wheel, trade ‘tradition’ for truth, and support their students with a system for the future instead of making excuses for the outmoded tools of the past.
It’s for Explorers who know there’s more to colour than the wheel has told them.
And if you’re reading this… let’s call it like it is: The Colour Room is for you.
This is your personal invitation to become a Founding Member of The Colour Room—a new kind of Membership for colour keeners who want to crack the code, level up their colour eyeQ, and join a movement to reinvent the wheel.
But that’s what most exciting about being in on the ground floor. I’m counting on you to help me build the walls, and define The Colour Room as ‘our room’ , a unique and inclusive place where we can explore colour together.
🎨 Artists who feel blocked by colour—even though they’re passionate, their palettes feel predictable or frustrating.
🖍️ Teachers who are stuck teaching what they were taught—even though they know the wheel is wrong, they don't know what else to use.
🌈 Explorers who love colour but don’t know how to speak it yet—even though they’re curious, it still feels confusing.
No matter your background, The Colour Room will meet you where you are—and take you somewhere new.

Other programs teach colour theory that doesn’t always play out in practice. Or you’re spoon-fed the answers without really understanding how to get there on your own.
BTC teaches truth, in a way that’s:
✅ Accurate — Built on modern science, not 17th-century guesswork
✅ Interactive — With hands-on tools and guided practice
✅ Empowering — You don’t just follow a formula. You build fluency.
✅ Playable — Gamified prompts, real-time experiments, and lots of fun
You’ll learn both the structure and the freedom of colour—because colour isn’t either/or. It’s both.
This is colour for both sides of your brain.

WHY ME?
Hi, I’m Tracy Holmes—and I’m the creator of BreakThroughColour.
I developed BTC because I needed it. I’m not an artist, and I’m not an art teacher. I’m someone who was frustrated by colour—intrigued by it, inspired by it, but often left out of the conversation because traditional colour theory never really added up. So I set out to crack the code, and in the process, I built a system that finally made colour make sense.
And the more I shared it, the more I realized I wasn’t alone.
Helping others break through colour confusion has become one of my greatest joys. I’ve watched it happen again and again—those lightbulb moments when people suddenly see what they’ve never been able to see before. And every time, I get to re-live my own breakthrough all over again.
That’s why I’m creating The Colour Room.
Because I believe colour deserves its own space.
As one of the most essential elements of design, colour has a huge impact on our work as Artists. But it’s more than that. It defines our environment, and it shapes our lives. Until now, there hasn’t really been a place to explore it with depth, clarity, and community. The truth is, the colour tools we’ve relied on for centuries were never built to take us further, so of course we haven’t gone deeper.
BreakThroughColour changes that. Plotting three modern primary Hues as the dimensions of the colour space itself, it goes further, deeper, wider than ever.
Built on the exponential power of 3, it starts simple… and it stays simple. Even when the gamut grows into hundreds of different colours, it stays grounded in a colour space that reveals where every other colour comes from. It’s surprisingly logical, highly visual, and honestly… a little addictive. The 2x2x2 Corner Cube gives us the ‘Great 8’ gamut that defines the entire system, consitent cornerstone colours that we can count on,,, and there are 400 colours waiting to be counted. With BTC, you begin to see colour in a way you never have before. And once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
There’s so much to learn about colour, even before you step into your studio or classroom. But I don't know of any community that puts colour first, maybe because traditional colour tools and rules couldn't take us very far... or worse, they stopped us in our tracks, or told us we didn't belong.
BTC has kept me engaged and learning and still discovering after more than a decade... and I know the system better than anyone because I created it. I had to find my own way to break through, but now that I have, I want to host a place for others to break through too.
The Colour Room is that place.
And just like the colour space itself, there's room for you, and there's room to grow...
